NCC Wins Battle For Fair Motorhome Tax
Following a lobbying campaign by our industry body, the National Caravan Council (NCC), the Chancellor announced as part of his budget that Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) on new motorhomes would reduce to last year’s levels from March 12th 2020. The NCC argued that it was unfair that swingeing increases on VED of up to £1,970 should apply to the most efficient and least polluting Euro 6D/2 diesel engines that had ever been produced, especially as motorhomers typically only drive around 6,000 miles a year. From September 2019 the new VED levels had increased to £1,280 or £1,815 depending on the engine variant and a further increase to £2,135 was due from 1st April 2020.
From 12th March 2020 the new rates of VED will be:
- £265 on motorhomes with a payload less than 3,500kgs rising to £270 on 1st April 2020
- £165 on motorhomes with a payload of more than 3500kgs
We are delighted that the Chancellor decided to support our industry and well done to the NCC.
