Thank you to everyone who attended our Summer Spectacular weekend, held from 19th - 21st June. The event proved popular from the moment the event line opened on 27th April, booking out within 2 weeks.
Feedback from attendees was that this was the best weekend of entertainment put on by Brownhills yet, with three fantastic acts who exceeded all expectations.
The weekend event commenced with a Pie and Pea supper followed by a performance from The Buddies band who played a mixture of 40s, 50s and 60s rock and roll music. This band was recommended by one of our Club Members and what a brilliant tip they proved to be. Not only were the band supremely talented, such skills shown on the double bass and drums, but they added a touch of comedy too. Their first set reached a crescendo with a truly amazing drumming session, leading to a well-deserved standing ovation. After speaking with many members of the audience, the band managed a short break before returning for the second set, which didn't fail to impress and ensured many of the audience were up dancing. The numerous requests will no doubt see a return of The Buddies so keep your eye out for the next time they're playing.
Table top and charity stalls during Saturday daytime, along with a raffle drawn on Saturday night, saw us reach our highest taking for charity at a single event with £1,336 being raised for our charity of the year - The Alzheimer's Society and Research. Thank you so much to those who bought cakes, took part in the games and purchased raffle tickets as every £1 raised matters so much.
Saturday night came and a delicious BBQ dinner was served, including desert, to all in attendance. The staff showed true team work during food service, the slickness of which was commented on by several customers. Bobby Davro, best known for his impressionist work, entered the showroom with gusto - before even reaching the stage he had selected members of the audience participating in a mini conga. Bobby's comedic songs, some of which involved Brownhills members showing their moves on the dancefloor and assisting with hilarious backing singing, plus punchy jokes had the audience in stitches throughout his performance. Following a short break to re-set the stage, the Ivy League gave a sensational performance - true professionals. The Ivy League, regular entertainers within the leisure industry, proved they knew the audience well by playing brilliant songs throughout. The dancefloor was full to bursting with every song played pulling more people up to dance.
The weekend was thoroughly enjoyed by all, customers and staff alike. Only 12 weeks until Brownhills' next event, the Auto-Trail 2016 Launch weekend, for which the booking line opens on Monday 3rd August!
