Timing Belt / Cambelt Replacement
When it comes to motorhome servicing, timing belt/cambelt replacement is without doubt the most important serviceable component of the motorhome’s engine. The timing belt/cambelt controls the camshafts in the engine to keep it running smoothly, if left unchanged and in the event it breaks, the rectification work can become very costly.
It is important to know the schedule for replacement of your timing belt/cambelt as going over the manufacturers’ recommendation can lead to a slipped or snapped belt.
To check the schedule for replacing your timing belt/cambelt you can refer to your owner’s manual which will indicate a mileage of anywhere from 50,000 to 90,000 miles or suggest replacement at around 5 years.
If you are not aware of the repair history of your vehicle it would be wise to err on the side of caution and replace the timing belt/cambelt at the next service.
If changing the water pump you might consider replacing the timing belt/cambelt at the same time as this will save on labour costs and prevent having to change the pump again at a later date.
In the event that your motorhome is leaking any type of fluid that could cause the timing belt/cambelt to degrade it would be best to disregard the suggested replacement schedule and replace the timing belt/cambelt a.s.a.p. at the same time as repairing the leak.
If you have any doubt as to whether your timing belt/cambelt required replacement, please contact our Service Department on 01636 704201 who will be happy to assist.
