What You Need To Consider When Buying Your First Motorhome

What you need to consider when
buying your first motorhome

Many of us are now embracing the flexibility and freedom that comes with owning a motorhome. If you're thinking about buying your first motorhome, there are a number of things that you need to consider before you take the plunge.

Below we offer some tips and advice when buying your first motorhome.

Are you allowed to drive a motorhome?

When you start to look at motorhomes, you need to check that your driving licence allows you to drive such a vehicle.

This all depends upon the size and weight of your chosen motorhome and when you passed your test.

Do you have somewhere to park your motorhome?

One of the first considerations should be about where you plan to park your motorhome. Do you have enough space on your property or in a garage? Where will it be stored? As such, it's important to carefully consider the size of the motorhome you buy. The Fiat Adria Matrix Auto is incredibly compact at just under 6 meters in length, so this could be a great option if you have less space.

How do you plan to use your motorhome?

You also need to think about where you plan to take your motorhome. Will it be on the open road or will you be using a campsite? If you're heading out into the wild, it's best to choose a motorhome with facilities, such as a kitchen and shower. Rapido motorhomes come with a range of facilities, with the Fiat Rapido Design Edition featuring a rear shower room.

Will it be used throughout the year?

If you plan to travel during the winter months then it's important that your motorhome is well insulated against the cold and frost. All Swift motorhomes meet Grade 3 standards for insulation and heating needs, meaning you'll be nice and warm no matter how cold it is outside.

Who will be using the motorhome?

If more than four people will be using the motorhome, you'll need rear seats that come with travelling belts. For example, the Swift Champagne, which has 6 berths, comes with rear seats that are suitable for children. So, do carefully check the number of seats before you buy.

You need to consider sleeping arrangements

It's important that you find out how the sleeping arrangements work for your chosen motorhome. Does it feature single or double beds? There needs to be the right number of beds for everyone staying in the motorhome. Some motorhomes feature drop down beds, such as the Fiat Rapido 665F 5 Berth, while others even come with bunk beds.

Where do you plan to eat?

This may not seem so important, but you do need to carefully consider where you will sit and eat. Some motorhomes feature a central dining area, while others, such as the Swift Kontiki Hi Line Auto feature two separate seating areas. This is ideal if you want the kids to sit together during mealtimes.
